The Ashburn Pulse is a free, independent local newsletter and guide for Ashburn, Virginia, run by a neighbor — not a big platform. We collect as little as we can, we don't sell your information, and we're happy to delete it whenever you ask.
Privacy
What we collect
- Your email address, when you subscribe to the newsletter.
- How you found us, if you tell us (for example, choosing a referral source on a form) — so we know what's working.
- Anything you send us — tips, corrections, listing submissions, or replies — including the email address you send them from.
- Basic game info, if you choose to create an account for the daily puzzles and leaderboard: a display name and your scores/streaks. You can play without an account.
Who processes it
Our newsletter is sent through MailerLite, an email service provider that stores subscriber email addresses on our behalf. If you create a games account, your display name and scores are stored by our games back-end so the leaderboard can work. These providers process this information only so the Pulse can reach you and run the games — not for their own marketing.
Analytics & cookies
We may use basic, privacy-respecting analytics to understand how many people read the site and which sections are useful, and email opens/clicks are measured by MailerLite in the normal way for a newsletter. We don't use your reading to build advertising profiles, and there are no third-party ad trackers on the Pulse.
What we never do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information.
- We do not share your email with advertisers.
- We do not send you unrelated marketing — you get the Pulse, and you can leave any time.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe any time using the link at the bottom of any newsletter email — it takes effect immediately.
- Delete your information. Email info@theashburnpulse.com and we'll remove your subscriber record and any games account, and confirm when it's done.
- Ask us anything about what we hold about you — same address.
Corrections & accuracy
Getting the details right is the whole point of the Pulse. We check event details against the organizer's own website before we publish, and we hand-check the links we include.
When something changes or we get it wrong:
- We update the web version of the affected page so it's correct going forward — we don't leave a wrong detail standing.
- For a material correction (a wrong date, price, or location that could send you to the wrong place or time), we note what changed.
